Hello From GEORGIA!!

Dear Blog (and blogging friends if I have any left out there...)

Months ago, I thought I was being smart by making this blog private.  For two reasons really, the first being that my photo program on my computer wasn't working (still isn't) so I couldn't add any photos to my posts - how boring - and the second was that my husband was applying for a new job and I was nervous that anything public on the Internet could be used against him (though I don't really think I have posted anything bad about my dear husband on this blog, but you never know).  Well, then I realized that I blocked myself from reading my own blog.  Then I realized I blocked myself from editing my own blog too.

I'm not really sure how that all happened.  Oops.

Then I had a slew of emails and fbook comments/messages asking me to invite them to read my blog... haahaha  I couldn't even read my own stinking blog!  And I was just too darn busy to figure it out.

One thing led to another, Chris got the job, we moved to Georgia and left our beloved home and friends in Florida (sniff sniff) and we are still trying to unpack and settle in here in Georgia.

Looooong story.  However, so many small things have happened lately that I don't want to forget so I figured I needed to start somewhere.  And I probably will never catch up.  Oh well.

For instance, just this week --

Monday: After changing a particularly stinking diaper, I went out the front door to throw it in the garbage bin on the street before trash pick up and Dax locked me out.  No lie.  He literally turned the lock on the handle.  I was stuck in my sweaty workout clothes, barefoot on the front porch with no phone and no keys.  The boys stood by the door and opened the blinds and waved to me.  Dax told me the door was "stuck" and then they closed the blinds and laughed.  No lie.  I solicited my kind neighbors help, she freaked out and called 911.  About 20 min later, the firetruck was dispatched and a sheriff broke in my front door.  We found the boys running around destroying things with huge smiles on their faces.  The stinkers.

Tuesday: Came into the kitchen to find both boys sitting on top of my kitchen table with the girls' bag of play-doh opened and strewn everywhere.  Including in their mouths.  Not so gross, just incredibly annoying to clean up.

Wednesday: While I'm paying bills on the computer just a few feet away from the pantry, Tyce managed to dump out not one, but TWO full boxes of pricey, organic maple brown sugar granola onto the kitchen floor and both boys tracked the pieces all over my entire downstairs.  They look like they had rolled in the stuff.  And they spilled a cup of water in the middle.  Granola dust and particles in two rooms and up half a flight of stairs, and wet granola soup in the kitchen.  You might wonder - how did this go unnoticed by me?  I am baffled.  It is truly incredible.  But here's the kicker - I had decided to stay up late last night and mop my floors because of the earlier play-doh incident.  Why do I even try??  It's not even ten'o'clock in the morning.

Continuing on...

The kids and I finally joined Chris here in Georgia the first day of August.  We stayed with his parents until we found the house that we are currently renting.  We moved into our house 2.3 miles down the road from my in-laws. I feel like everything is within a 3 mile radius in my life.  Almost all of our family, Jada's school, Kalle's school, the church, the girls' tumbling gym, my gym, the grocery store, the dentist, an outdoor mall with restaurants, and chick-fil-a.  6-7 miles away is Walmart, Target, our new doctors, gas stations, and more stores and shops than I can even patronize.  I live in a bubble.  Its great.  Now if the roads were so stinking narrow and windy with huge hills up and down then I would walk everywhere!  But its crazy around here - its kind of like the old Northeast, but newer and southern, if that makes any sense.

Our family updates ... (from youngest to oldest)

The boys are 18 months old!  THEY ARE IN NURSERY! PRAISE BE!  And you better believe that I am NOT one of those moms who sits in there with my boys and babies them and lets them cry for me and blah blah blah.  No way.  I make Chris drop them off (key) and then I let the nursery leaders do their job.  And guess what?  The boys cry.  Yup.  But then they get over it and they are fine!!  You just have to start them off learning from day one that you will not give in - that you the PARENT will win.  hahahahaha.  (This will probably come back to bite me in the bum bum) But for now, going to church is actually enjoyable again :)

DAX is huge.  He likes to wrestle, body slamming in particular.  He has the best laugh.  He is still round and chubby and his smile is adorable.  He loves Jada more than anyone in the world.  He is kind of fearless.  He will go down the tallest slide at the park, head first, by himself.  I can barely keep up with him.  He loves to try to swim, always laying down on his stomach and flailing around to make the biggest splashes possible.  He is obsessed with eating bananas.  But he refuses to chew them, he just stuffs them into his mouth and swallows them whole.  I can't cut them into pieces, he wants the entire banana in his hand and he shoves it in his mouth with his palms.  Its kind of disgusting.  He can say banana, nana, grandpa, Jada, mama, dada, brother, stuck, uh-oh, bubble, baba, yes, out, more, a whole slew of animal sounds and some weird garble which I know he means paci and blankie.  He drags that darn blanket everywhere.  Gross.  Though he usually isn't the instigator of mischief, he is almost always a willing participant.  He makes a horrible yelling noise when he's being ignored.  But on the plus side, he has begun to understand just about everything.  He even likes to clean up!  He will help with the laundry and help me unload the dishwasher.  He will put things in the trash and put his toys into bins.  He's inquisitive and pays attention to everything I do, and then tries to copy me and do it himself like locking doors and turning on the stove - and if he gets into my car he can put my keys in the ignition, close the garage door and open the sunroof in less than 10 seconds.  In some ways he is just like Jada.  But he doesn't want to sit still to read a book or watch tv - EVER.  NEVER EVER.  However, Dax can drive our kids huge, outdoor battery-powered Jeep.  No lie.  Kalle can't even drive that thing.  But Dax can.  He can push the gas pedal and steer a little.  Its insane.  Chris thinks its awesome.  I'm going to get a video of it soon.  They are both crazy.  Both the twins have really enjoyed being in our new home.  Its much bigger than the home we had in Florida and they have loved being able to run all over the place and play and discover and cause all kinds of mischief ;)  Plus we are able to see lots of family members often and that is such a wonderful blessing for my kids.

TYCE is really trying my patience.  Some days I am so frustrated with him I stick him in his crib and vow to never get him back out!  But he is a relentless screamer.  And he bangs his head against the crib rails so hard I swear it shakes the entire house.  I always give in.  Plus the little stinker has this smile that literally melts my heart.  Its almost annoying, but I love it.  He is just so gosh darn adorable!  His most rewarding trait is his passion for books.  We probably read 20 books a day, he will find the book he wants and bring it to me and quite literally force me to read it to him by pushing me down and climbing into my lap.  His favorite objects to point to are always cars and trucks and airplanes.  We can be reading a book that I have read hundreds of times before with my girls and he finds the things with engines that I never had noticed before.  He looooves cars and trucks and says vroom vroom and pushes them all over the house and up and down the stairs.  He also is drawn like a magnet to anything electronic, anything with buttons.  I know everyone says that about their babies but this kid is different.  He can actually turn the tv on and the unlock my iphone/ipad and open the doors to my car.  He can't help it.  I also feel like Tyce is the twin who does NOT obey me, at all.  He usually instigates the mischief in our house.  For instance, if Dax notices a bathroom door left ajar by accident he will run to it, stop at the entrance, and say uh-oh!  Tyce, however, will run after him, push Dax aside, and immediately begin to splash in the potty (every single day the first week we lived her Tyce got shoulder deep in the potty at least 2 times) or eat toothpaste or hairspray or empty my eyeshadow on the floor.  This happens before I can even run across the house after them!  I mean, I am talking seconds people!  Literally seconds!  I RUN and still Ty has beat me to something.  Then while I'm trying to clean up one twin, the other gets into something else disgusting right next to me and I can't even stop him!  This back and forth battle continues for a few minutes until eventually we are all basically crying and exhausted.  I finally wised-up and bought child locks for almost every door in our house.  The funny thing about Tyce is that he waits like a patient, silent hawk stalking its prey for someone to set their phone down or their car keys and he then the second you are not looking, he snatches them.  Often he runs away (and that little bugger is stinking fast) with the stolen object and hides.  His favorite spots are under his crib, in my closet under my hanging clothes, or behind a toy chest.  Sometimes he wants to be chased and he grabs the forbidden object and stares at you with a smirk.  Really, a smirk.  When you notice what he has - he smiles, then sprints away.  Generally, both boys are a little ridiculous with their coordination when it comes to walking.  They seem to walk into walls and doors and trip over toys and rugs CONSTANTLY.  But when Tyce has a cell phone, I think he could win a baby race for speed if there were such a thing.  His legs get moving so fast its incredible!  Plus he's squealing with delight the whole time with this huge, goofy grin.  Argh!  How can you be mad at this kid??

KALLE is such a precious little sweetheart.  Everyone just loves her.  There is something so different and so endearing and wonderful about Kalle.  She still lives half the time in a different world, and its become such a creative and exciting world to hear about.  She can captivate an entire room of adults with one of her "stories" about monsters or unicorns or dragons.  We don't even understand most of what shes saying but its always entertaining :-)  Kalle has been forced to spend more of her days in the world the rest of us live in because she is in school every day this year.  Though she would definitely prefer to stay home and stay in bed for the majority of the day :-)  Hahaha.  I painted the girls' room HOT pink before we moved in.  Its awesome.  And Kalle looooves to make her bed perfectly and line her animals and toys up and play in her pink room.  She just marches to the beat of her own drum, and usually that is a good thing but Kalle's drum might not be the best kind of drum for her to be marching too.  She is seeing a specialist twice a week and we are working on figuring out what exactly we can do to best help her.  Every 'professional' who has evaluated Kalle has had a very difficult time figuring her out ;-)

JADA is in first grade and LOOOOOOVES it.  She loves her teacher, her class, her new friends, her new school, her new neighborhood friends, her new pink room and her new primary class at church.  This move has been amazing for Jada.  She gets to play with her best friend/cousin Lexi every Sunday for Wernli family dinners and sometimes in between.  Jada also gets to see her other "cousins" (Tabitha and family) at church and during the week for playdates/babysitting.  She has also made a whole bunch of neighborhood friends.  We live on a cul-de-sac with maybe 10 houses, 5 on each side of the street.  Its kind of small and kind of perfect.  Every house has young kids living there and every family is ridiculously kind.  All the kids have been so nice and inclusive of both Jada and Kalle.  I feel like our family is safe here.  Both girls are taking a tumbling class at the same cheer gym that their Auntie Lindsay used to take classes and where Uncle Tyler used to coach.  Its like my girls are celebrities!  Haha.  Jada is reading and writing so well.  She had her first spelling test of her life last week - 20 words - and she got 100% correct.  We barely practiced.  In her school she has art class and computer class and gym and music and recess every day and they have two class gerbils which has been the topic of much conversation :)  I couldn't be more thrilled with our experience with Jada's school.  Well, I guess if they didn't have to go to school every day I would like that much better.  Haha.  I miss my girls!!

ME.  I am fine.  I miss Florida.  I am a real mom now, my husband is gone a LOT.  I feel like I have finally entered real life.  I wish I could feel sorry for myself, but, its real life.  I had to grow up someday I guess.  Right?  Boo.  I'll get over it.

CHRIS started his new job in July and has realized how incredibly busy he has become.  He basically has traveled every other week since he started (leaves Sun comes home Fri).  I know that traveling for work isn't "fun" but hello!  He gets to eat and sleep and get dressed and work out alone!  What's not amazing about that??  The traveling will be on hold for Nov and Dec so that's good for me :)  I think Chris has really enjoyed this new job.  He misses a lot of wonderful people that he worked with in Florida, but he will still see them since he is still with the same company.  Instead of being a sales rep, he now trains the sales reps.  Pretty cool, huh?  Instead of working from his car, he now works in an office, with a desk.  Weird.  His commute is about a half an hour which isn't terrible but I knew that I wanted to live closer to his family instead of closer to his work.  I'm so smart rude.  I really miss him being around so much.  Somehow, Chris has managed to stay fit, working out during his lunch break or evenings when hes out of town.  He just had his birthday and I told him that I think he looks the best he has ever looked on any birthday in his entire life!  WOW!  I was serious too.  Except the poor guy just broke his finger playing football.  That has been a huge annoyance.  But other than that, I think he really loves being here in Georgia, by his family :-)

Our daily grind...

I wake up between 6:15-6:30 and make breakfast.  The only way I get Kalle out of bed in the morning is if I lure her with a breakfast waiting for her on the table, preferably a hot one.  (its often Eggo waffles with sprinkles - I know, its gross) The next hour is a whirlwind of breakfast scarfing, uniforms and sweaters, hair bows and braids, shoes and backpacks, and packing lunches and snacks.  Then at 7:15 Chris walks out the door for work taking Kalle with him, he drops her off at preschool by 7:30.  I finally get the screaming monsters twins out of bed and in their highchairs then I watch Jada get on the bus at 7:40 from our driveway (we are only 3 houses from the bus stop!) Now I finally sit down and eat breakfast with the boys.  Then we play and read books and I try to prevent them from destroying too many things in our still unpacked house.  (If I'm lucky I take them with me to the gym for a zumba class at 8:30 ;-) By 10'o'clock I have changed 2 poopie diapers (its actually quite an accomplishment that requires some serious skillz ;) and both boys are in bed for their morning naps.  In separate rooms!  I alternate which boy sleeps where, one in their crib in the nursery and the other in a pack'n'play in our guest room - no longer do I have a baby in closet!! HAHAHAHA!  Been there, did that - for 18 MONTHS!  For two hours I have my favorite time of the day some quiet time for me to get things done, though somehow things don't always seem to really get done... I usually shower and read a little and then bam!  Ty is awake.  Always its Ty first.  Always.  Actually, I don't even think he really sleeps some days at all, but he stays in his bed for a minimum of one hour, regardless. Now its noon and lunch time and my sanity is over craziness is just beginning.  I change 2 more poopie diapers, almost without fail, the boys eat and run around, cause all kinds of mischief and then we're all in the car and headed to pick up Kalle from preschool at 2.  Mondays and Wednesdays are a nightmare because we drive straight to the elementary school so that Kalle can have her special speech/language classes and I try to entertain the boys.  Its a nightmare.  Wednesdays we leave the elementary school with Jada and drive to tumbling class where I try again to entertain the boys for an hour while the girls tumble.  Did I already mention that its a nightmare?  Ugh.  The rest of the week we come home and water the lawn (we just had new sod laid on our entire yard and it has been needing constant care) that takes me an hour and the three kids play with cars and wagons on the driveway.  Sometime in there I lay the boys down for their second nap around 3.  Kalle and I get about a half an hour to chat and have a snack before Jada gets off the bus at 3:40.  More chatting, homework and snacking and then the girls want to play with neighborhood friends and I have to start dinner.  Boys are out of bed before 5, and we're ideally all waiting for Chris to get home around 5:15-5:30 then we eat!  Then the real fun begins.  Dishes, baths, hair drying, teeth brushing, maybe more homework, reading scriptures, running around like a bunch of hooligans, wrestling with daddy, and finally, bedtime!  The boys are back in bed around 7-7:30 and the girls at 8:00pm.  Whew!  I need a nap just from writing that!!  Haha.

Basically, I feel like this move has been really, really good for everyone else in my whole family.  How can I not love that??

So I guess we're really in Georgia now.  And I guess we're really not moving back to Florida.  At least not this year.  (I'm still keeping my fingers crossed though)

Well, I think I better go shopping for some warm sweaters and cute boots! Shopping seems to help make everything a little better :-)

And P.S.  I'm going back to being public again.  The private blog thing just didn't quite work for me.  Maybe I'll try it again another day :)

Love, Kimberly

Wernli Family Photo Shoot

My awesome in-laws, Steve and Linda, have 5 children; 4 boys and 1 girl.  7 years ago Cassie and I both were new additions to this family followed by 4 grand-daughters over the next 5 years bringing the total Wernli clan number to 13.  This year, 2011, FIVE people were added to this family!  FIVE!  First my twins came in February, then Jason married Caitlin, two weeks later Tyler married Valentina, and then in October Cassie delivered Everett (nicknamed Rett).  New total - 19!  That is a huge expansion!  And it was extra fun to have the whole family home for the holidays :-)

Here's the whole gang on the front porch of my in-laws home...

Steve and Linda with their 7 grandchildren and only daughter Lindsay...

The four grand-daughters: Jada, Lexi, Laney and Kalle.  (And grandson Rett in the middle ;)

Best Friend Cousins Jada and Lexi :-)  These two are less than a year apart and were inseparable the whole time.  It was adorable!

The Grandsons: Tyce, Rett and Dax

The Daughters: Caitlin, Valentina, Lindsay, Cassie and Me

The Children...

Oldest to Youngest...
#1 - Christopher & Kimberly

#2 - Brandon & Cassie

#3 - Jason & Caitlin

#4 - Tyler and Valentina

#5: Lindsay.  Of course her goofy brothers tease her relentlessly but at the same time are extremely over-protective.  Isn't she gorgeous?

This family is wonderful.  I feel so blessed to be in this awesome family.  And even more blessed to have married into this family when it was young and smaller, so that I will have the benefit of watching it grow :-)

Christmas In Georgia

Over the river and through the woods to Nana's house we go !!!  This is how we roll...

When we drive up to Georgia to visit Chris' parents, we have found that the best time for us to leave is at 4:00 am.  We have tried every other time imaginable, but 4:00 am always seems to be the best.  The kids sleep the first few hours, then wake up and eat breakfast in their car seats, watch a movie, and then we are halfway there!  We stop and get lunch and gas and drive the rest of the way with more movies and toys and bribery :)  The whole trip takes us around 10 hours so we usually roll into Nana's house by 2 pm which is perfect.  We let the kids run around, unpack and have a nice dinner than they are tired out and ready for bed.  Plus, our strategic departure time helps us hit the major cities during their off rush hour traffic times which is a must!

The twins got new convertible car seats just in time for our big car trip!  The boys waaaaay exceeded their infant carrier car seats in both length and weight.  At their 9 month check up the dr was like, "Seriously?" I have loved those infant carriers, it has been so easy to get the boys in and out of the car/house/stroller in those things.  I miss them.  But, they twins are much more comfortable and much more safe too.  (Dax up top, Tyce at the bottom)
We made it to Nana's house!  YAY!!!  We were the first of all the kids/grandkids to arrive :) (Dax on the left)
We had a great Christmas in Georgia.  Here are a few of the things that we did that I actually captured with my camera...

First of all, I spent a TON of time shopping.  Really, TONS of time shopping.  It was awesome for me, but terrible for our bank account.  The first day we arrived I took Jada with me for a little shopping trip - I miss her since she's in school all day.  She used to be my best shopping buddy.
We rode this cute little train inside the mall.  And I bought her treats :)  We also bought some presents!  (Yes, my eyebrows look scary.  I got them colored in preparation for my sisters upcoming wedding and the gal who did them was over zealous in her tint job.  Oh well, it faded, eventually.  I try not to let superficial things like that rattle me, its not permanent after all!
One night, Steve and Linda wanted to take us all out to dinner for Hibachi.  Jada and her cousin Lexi thought they were so grown up sitting together at the restaurant at the end of the table...
Linda, Steve and Lindsay...
Me and my Kalle bug...
Chris and his mini-me Tyce...
Valentina and Tyler volunteered to have Dax eat by them.  I'm sure they'll remember not to do that again next time...

Cassie, Brandon and my only nephew - baby Rett (who is the perfect baby and totally edible and scrumptious!)
Dax and me.  I'm pretty sure he whomped his head on the table.  But the fire captivated his attention for awhile...
Chris and me with our boys...
We somehow survived the dinner!  And still had a few smiles to give when we got home.  Caitlin & Tyce, Dax & Jason...
Basically the moment we arrived in Georgia, both of my boys came down with nasty colds.  They had never been in cold weather before, ever.  Ugh.  A few other people in the family got colds and other illnesses and I am not sure but Tyce had this HORRIBLE red, dry, patchy rash all over his body but mostly on his face and tummy and I think it might have been a manifestation of strep throat.  Why I never took him to see a doctor is still a mystery to me.  I guess I was too preoccupied with Christmas and getting ready to go to Ohio for my sister's wedding.  Who knows.  But doesn't his face look so awful?  Poor kid.
Tyce is on the right.  His whole forehead was chapped and slightly swollen.  I think I just thought his skin was really dry everywhere from the weather.  Dax is on the left and he has such sensitive skin that if you touch his face it leaves a mark for a few hours.  He didn't have the rash, just a cold.
But they both still smiled with their daddy so sweetly, I just couldn't get enough of it!
Steve and Linda like to get one huge gift (along with tons of others) for all the kids to really enjoy while they are at their house.  Two years ago it was a race track and the brothers spent HOURS racing electric toy cars over and over.  This year the gift was a ping pong table.  They let the boys set it up before Christmas day so they could enjoy it the whole time they were there.  But setting it up proved to be somewhat difficult for them... haha...

The girls were the cheer squad!  And yes that is a golf cart, another beloved adventure at Nana's house.  (Don't worry about the ping pong table.  Reinforcements were finally called in - aka Cassie - and she was able to show the boys how to assemble the table properly!  Oh, and she was also the one who ended up setting up the racetrack two years ago also.  Thank goodness for Cassie!!)
The ping pong table was a huge hit with the Wernli brothers of course.  They had an on going tournament and I'm not sure it ever produced a clear victor ;-)  But there were two others who enjoyed the game whenever the paddles weren't claimed, it was Lexi and Jada.  They were hilarious and they just giggled and giggled and imitated their daddy's.  Sooooo precious!
Steve spent days in the kitchen cooking and baking.  He is an awesome chef!
One of his specialties (and my personal favorite) are his cinnamon rolls.  I think he made over 100 for friends and family in one day...

The twins spent a LOT of time in theses highchairs.  They seem to be bottomless pits... (Dax on the left again)

My adorable nephew Rett.  Wonderbaby.  He was such a peach!  He spent a lot of this trip doing this...

Unfortunately, this is my baby swing we brought up for him to use and the motor decided to die the first day.  After 6 years I guess it just gave up.  We loved that swing and all four of our kids used it for hours on end!  Linda gave it to me at my baby shower for Jada :)  What a great gift!  Anyways, someone inventive decided to tie a string onto the side of the swing and sit next to the swing and just pull it.  It actually worked out pretty well, mostly because Rett is such a fantastic baby :) Different people took turns pulling the rope swing, and someone got this great idea to tie the rope to your toe... (every boy was more than willing to sit down, beat each others' records in Tetris and be in charge of the rope swing ;-)
Dax was cruising all over the room, even in his long pants and (gasp) socks!
Now its Christmas Eve and time for some fun family traditions, starting with opening one gift - matching Christmas PJs!
 My little boys/reindeer/elves...
Chris hated these booties.  I loved them!
 The girls...
Kalle drew pictures for of Santa (I made the hat, but the rest was all her :)
Jada wrote a letter to Santa requesting a Go Go Puppy...
We sprinkled some "reindeer food" out on the lawn...
Decorated Gingerbread houses...
Got a little slap happy...(Uncle Brandon)...
Aunt Lindsay built the BEST fort ever in the basement!  And we actually let the four little girls sleep in it!  We're crazy.  Here's Lexi and Jada...
Inside the fort...
The girls spent hours coloring their fort...
Seriously, isn't my nephew precious??  He's only a few weeks old!
'Twas the night before Christmas...
... and Nana is nailing a sheet to the wall in front the family room to prevent the kids from seeing their Christmas presents because Christmas was on a Sunday and we decided to go to church first, then come home and open all the presents.  I love this picture...
The girls somehow managed to fall asleep after HOURS of giggling in the fort in the dark.  They were really having way too much fun.  I kind of hating it, but I mostly loved it :)  And the girls even heard Santa's sleigh bells outside their window ;-)  It was a magical thing to overhear (not the sleigh bells, but the little sweet girls' reaction to hearing the bells).

The following morning, the girls must've been tired because none of them really resisted foregoing present opening for church attendance.  IT WAS A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!  (my favorite part was that Cassie's family of 5 and my family of 6 were the only Wernli's on time to church that morning, oh wait Lindsay was on time too, the poor thing had to speak!)

The hardest part was making the girls wait while we tried to snap some pictures of them in their dresses AFTER church.  They were SOOOO ready to be opening those presents!  And then we even made them change back into their Christmas PJs.  Wow, I feel like we're sounding like terrible parents!  Oh well.  We made up for it in gifts I'm sure.

The grandkids (minus baby Rett)...
The Grand-daughters...
Finally!  Present opening time!  Here's Jada and her new GoGo Puppy from Santa...
And Kalle and her new walking baby doll from Santa...
Another Christmas miracle, Jada lost her very first tooth ever ON Christmas day!!
We basically put the boys down for a nap right after church and they completely slept through almost all of Christmas.  Oh well.  I don't think they really truly cared.  When they woke up we let them play with a few new toys...
Tyce and Dax... (they still look half asleep)
Overall Christmas was amazing.
